Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. People are around suffer from this horrible disease daily! Help us and others get the word out about breast cancer to the general public buy knowing what it is, how it is cause, what the symptoms are, and how it can be treated.

Breast cancer is cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, or a red scaly patch of skin.

Risk factors for developing breast cancer include obesity, lack of physical exercise, drinking alcohol, and excessive drug use. Some genetic susceptibility may play a minor role in most cases.

Breast cancer, like other cancers, occurs because of an interaction between an environmental (external) factor and a genetically susceptible host. Normal cells divide as many times as needed and stop. They attach to other cells and stay in place in tissues. Cells become cancerous when they lose their ability to stop dividing, to attach to other cells, to stay where they belong, and to die at the proper time.

In the United States, 10 to 20 percent of patients with breast cancer and patients with ovarian cancer have a first- or second-degree relative with one of these diseases. The familial tendency to develop these caners is called hereditary breast–ovarian cancer syndrome.

Help us STOP breast cancer! Spread the word and PLEASE donate to the Breast Cancer Awareness foundation! Thanks!
